Shoes
This week one of the blogs I follow centered on shoes. The blogger asked people to reply to his blog and let him know the number of pairs of shoes they owned and if they were female or male (the replier not the shoes) Of those who replied, including my New York friend, men by far had the most shoes!
I did not reply on his blog but just now have counted my own shoes, with the full knowledge that more than half of the world is shoeless and not by choice.
Embarrassingly I have 36 pairs of shoes, including a pair of purple boots (read previous blog on New York), three pairs of slippers, and of the rest, about four pair that I wear regularly. I own a lovely pair of yellow flats with sequins, bright blue Mary Jane's and a pair of serious mountain climbing boots (as if!). I am saving velvet Christmas shoes since by wearing them only once a year they probably will not wear out in my lifetime.
I suppose this information speaks to deep materialism and consumerism.
I think it simply speaks to the fact that as I have aged and although my body has changed shape and size, my shoe size has remained constant and I celebrate that.
And that's what I think about it.

Here's to the un-changing shoe size! Just counted . . . I have 14 pair, and after some serious thought, I'm pretty sure I haven't bought a pair of shoes in more than six years. Maybe I'll look for some to coordinate with a certain new scarf I've recently acquired. I'll keep you posted.
