How do you know what the best path is to follow? Open doors? Desire? Encouragement?

I ask because in the past two weeks some very important causes have come across my path and I am trying to decide which ones, if any, I should pursue. Everyone has the same amount of time I keep reminding myself. And then I add, you can only do what you can do....as if that makes any sense when you look at it closely.

Last week I sat at a meeting to learn about domestic violence in this county. I remembered that I had served on a county-wise task force to reduce violence in the county we lived in before our move here and now wonder if I should throw some energy toward this group.

I think my work as a court-appointed special advocate (CASA) is very important but I just closed my case and have not been assigned another. The good news on this front is that a new group of CASA volunteers has just finished training and perhaps I won't be needed there for a while after they all get their cases. The bad news is that the methamphetamine problem in this county is rising which means the children removed from homes and in need of protection will also increase in number.

I have a trip planned to Haiti in a few weeks. That is a definite and I have a week at the seminary the week before Haiti. Perhaps that is what is making me somewhat anxious (see previous blog on flying).

Thanks for listening. I know we all face the same dilemma and our value systems help dictate where we put our energy and how we use our time. My life will be clear as I am still and listen.

And that's what I think about it.

Just this morning in Bible study we watched a very short video by Erwin McManus (He wrote The Barbarian Way). This is our fourth of a series of his starting with Dreams, then Choices, Going, and this morning, Leaving an Impact. We had a spirited discussion since we are at a church that has a way of labeling people. Some are senders and others are goers! Erwin makes the statement that we have all been called to go. This week I made the qualifying statement that indeed we have all been called BUT we have not all been called to everything. And because we can't really get over that belief that it truly is what we DO that matters we fear saying No and find ourselves in the very predicament that you describe. We have accountability people we do not heed; answered prayer that we do not follow. All because of our need to DO. Wow Jody, I thought if I started to respond I would come up with some sort of answer for you but alas! I along with you am just a sojourner trying to figure the path out and wanting not to lose sight of the Light.
