Great Fun

Met two friends in Columbus, Ohio last week for the Winterfair Art Expo. Seven hundred artisans of diverse media, from fabric to steel, from clay to diamonds. The city was bedecked in Christmas finery and every store in the malls having sales. This was a shopper's paradise.

The highlight of each of these get-togethers, which happen a couple of times a year, is catching up on each others' lives and celebrating birthdays together, eating and laughing and yes, shopping.

On the second night a blizzard blew in. Probably not a fierce blizzard or even a blizzard by my two northern friends' standards but I have been away from this type of weather for a few years and the blowing biting snow crystals and the icy roads and a dozen cars off in ditches made southern Indiana seem like a desert oasis in comparison.

These two friends were c0-workers of mine back when. In fact, I was their boss, although I only knew I supervised the one (strange personnel practices) and only found out about the second when raises were being discussed. Both of them made me look very good to my own bosses and to the community. When I left, the department flourished under leadership of the one. Now all three of us have moved on but remember our fun run developing our little corner of the world.

And so part of our time together is spent reminiscing about the good old days. And part of our time together is spent with current projects (two of us are furthering our education, two continue to travel the world with the third envious). And part of our time is spent dreaming about the future and what we want to accomplish before we well, you know....

And that's what I'm thinking about today.
